TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi who is currently in New York to attend the 79th session of the UN General Assembly has highlighted the Gaza crisis in discussions with international officials.

Talking to Iranian reporters on Saturday, the top diplomat said that during meetings with his counterparts from Kuwait, Bahrain, and Cuba, as well as the Secretary-General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, he emphasized the gravity of the situation in Gaza. “The humanitarian conditions described in Gaza are truly unbelievable; the scale of the crimes committed is staggering. Worse still, all routes for delivering humanitarian aid are blocked, and entry and distribution of aid are not permitted.”

He noted that the situation is severely hampering efforts to provide relief to those in desperate need. "The hospitals established by the Red Cross are suffering from a lack of resources, and they are not allowed to receive supplies," he stated, adding that the conditions in Gaza have created what he termed a "real hell."

The Iranian Foreign Minister said in remarks to the officials it was pointed out that despite Israel’s military actions, none of its objectives—such as defeating Hamas or freeing prisoners—have been achieved. This failure, he said, was attributed to the unwavering support Israel receives from certain countries, particularly the United States. “The main obstacle to establishing a ceasefire and halting this war is the support that the U.S. and Western countries provide.”

In his remarks to foreign officials, Araqchi also urged the international community and the UN Security Council to take decisive action to address the situation, criticizing Western nations for their complicity in the ongoing violence. “The humanitarian situation in Gaza is extremely dire. The regional situation is precarious. The international community and the Security Council must address this situation; unfortunately, we are witnessing how it stands due to the policies of Western countries.”

In discussions with UN representatives regarding humanitarian assistance to Gaza and the situation in Syria, Araqchi reiterated the need for global awareness and sensitivity towards the "truly criminal policies" of the Israeli regime. He warned that these actions pose risks not only to regional stability but also to international peace.

“Further meetings and discussions will be held with foreign ministers and international organizations. The main topics of our discussions will be Palestine, Gaza, and southern Lebanon, encouraging the international community and global countries to fulfill their responsibilities in this regard,” the top Iranian diplomat concluded. 

Israel’s deadly military campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip, which began in October, has so far resulted in the death of over 40,000 Palestinians, and the injury of tens of thousands more civilians. 

The regime says it is now looking to begin a possible incursion into Lebanon, where the Hezbollah Resistance Movement has been carrying out attacks against Israeli positions in the occupied territories in support of Gazans. 

Analysts are warning that if not reined in, the regime will plunge the entire region into a deadly and devastating conflagration.
